two very interesting poems to share, from my lit lesson. ha, one is so morbid and the other so kiddo. so cute:)
evacuee - isobel thrillingA case stood in the hall
outlining the weight
of fear,
her doll felt cold,
she knew then
it had always been dead.
She left it
on the pillow,
heir to the wall-paper
roses and woolly dog.
Shadows clung
to the clothes at the door;
light struck bone.
She walked unshaded
down streets,
climbed a train and watched
the receding
lamps of platform faces.
The lady was kind,
wove stories
with tinsel thread;
but the texture
of her voice was strange,
her mouth
seemed painted on wax;
the smile ran red
first day at school - roger mcgougha millionbillonwillion miles from hone
waiting for the bell to go. (to go where?)
why are they all so big, other children?
so noisy? so much at home they
must have been born in uniform
lived all their lives in playgrounds
spent the years inventing games
that dont let me in. games
that are rough, that swallow you up.
and the railings.
all round, the railings.
are they to keep out wolves and monsters?
things that carry off and eat children?
things you dont take sweets from?
perhaps they're to stop us getting out
running away from the lessins. lessin.
what does a lessin look like?
sounds small and slimy.
they keep them in glassrooms.
whole rooms made out of glass. imagine.
i wish i could remember my name
mommy said it would come in useful.
like wellies. when there's puddles.
lellowwellies. i wish she was here.
i think my name is swen on somewhere
perhaps the teacher will read it for me.
tea-cher. the one who makes the tea.
hahas, arent these cute? haha! the first poem gives me creeps! oh well! but i sorta like it somewhat. it portrays and illustrates so simply and beautifully the lost innocence and the sudden maturity of a child. and the 2nd one is oh well, so happily cute. first day at school! i dont rmb feeling like this on the first day of school. hmmm.
